New Delhi :In a strongly worded statement during Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s (JIH) monthly press meet at its headquarters in the capital, JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam and raised serious concerns over the subsequent targeting of Kashmiri citizens and the state of security in the region.
Referring to the April 22 terrorist attack in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed innocent lives, Husaini reiterated JIH’s unwavering condemnation of the violence. “There can be no justification for such a barbaric and inhuman act. We grieve with the families of the victims and call for justice,” he said.
Highlighting ongoing lapses in security infrastructure, despite the region being under intense surveillance, the JIH President remarked, “The loss of innocent lives shows major shortcomings in security arrangements. The government must investigate these failures and hold accountable those responsible for this breach.”
He further questioned the government’s narrative of normalcy in Kashmir post the abrogation of Article 370, stating that the Pahalgam tragedy exposed the fragility of such claims. Praising the local Kashmiri population, he said, “Amid chaos, the people of Kashmir showed extraordinary courage by protecting and supporting tourists during the attack. This act of humanity must not go unnoticed.”
Syed Sadatullah Husaini also expressed grave concern over the backlash faced by Kashmiri students, vendors, and workers across India in the wake of the attack. “It is disturbing to see sections of the media and political circles exploiting this tragedy to fuel Islamophobia and polarize society. The attempts to paint such events through a Hindu-Muslim lens are deeply divisive and anti-national,” he said.
He commended the Indian public for resisting such divisive narratives and praised the families of the victims who spoke out against communal targeting. Calling for urgent action, Husaini demanded that all those involved in assaults on Kashmiris be prosecuted, and emphasized the need for state governments to ensure their safety and dignity. He also called for compensation to victims and the launch of awareness campaigns to counter prejudice.
The press meet also addressed other critical issues. Commenting on the Waqf Amendment Act, 2025, Husaini, who also serves as Vice President of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), said, “We fully back the AIMPLB’s resistance to this unconstitutional law which undermines the autonomy of religious endowments. We urge citizens to peacefully oppose this legislation through legal and democratic means.”
On the occasion of International Labour Day, the JIH President highlighted the exploitation of India’s labor force, especially those in the informal sector. He called for urgent reforms to align with International Labour Organization (ILO) standards and ensure dignity and rights for all workers.
Welcoming the decision to include caste data in the national census, Husaini emphasized the need for transparency and fairness. “A caste census is vital for addressing historical injustices and ensuring targeted development. It must remain free from political manipulation to truly empower marginalized communities,” he added.
