JIH Vice President Urges Ummah to Maintain Active Role Regardless of Election Outcome

13 May 2024: In a recent address at the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters, Professor Salim Engineer, the Vice President, emphasized the crucial role of the Ummah in the face of evolving political landscapes. Regardless of the outcome of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, he urged the Ummah not to falter but to actively engage in serving the people and the nation.

Highlighting the concerning trend of weakening democratic values and institutions over the past decade, Professor Salim Engineer voiced the importance of restoring faith in these foundational pillars of society. He noted the growing socio-political divide and the targeted marginalization of minorities, particularly Muslims, which has instilled fear and insecurity within communities.

Addressing the speculated scenario of the election results, Professor Engineer outlined three possibilities. He cautioned against viewing the elections solely through the lens of the Muslim community, emphasizing the broader identity of the Ummah and its inherent responsibilities towards society and the nation.

Reflecting on potential challenges, he dismissed extreme speculations about the erosion of constitutional principles and emphasized the resilience of both the country and the Ummah in confronting adversity. Professor Salim Engineer stressed the need for continued efforts to propagate the message of Islam and foster positive relationships with fellow citizens, including those with differing viewpoints.

As the nation awaits the election results, Professor Salim Engineer’s call to action resonates with a broader imperative for the Ummah to uphold its responsibilities and contribute to the well-being of society, regardless of the prevailing political landscape.
