New Delhi: Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
In a statement to the media, the JIH President said, “This ceasefire is a significant step towards halting the bloodshed in Gaza. It provides an opportunity to extend basic relief to the people of Gaza, who have endured one of the most devastating massacres in history. The international community must urgently initiate efforts for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gaza and take decisive steps to ensure the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Arab lands, paving the way for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state to guarantee the freedom of the Palestinian people.”
The Ameer paid tribute to “the courageous and heroic resistance and sacrifices of the people of Palestine.”
He reminded global powers, “This ceasefire comes after 15 months of brutal attacks that claimed the lives of over 48,000 people, most of whom were children, women, doctors, teachers, aid workers, journalists, and unarmed civilians. The attack on Gaza is a significant stain on the so-called civilized world and a thorn in the conscience of history and humanity.”
Sadatullah Husaini highlighted that while the ceasefire is set to be implemented from Sunday, Israel has continued its violence, resulting in the deaths of over 87 people, including 21 children and 25 women, in the interim.
He stated, “The world must recognise that Israel’s expansionist ambitions and blatant disregard for international norms and humanitarian principles pose a grave threat to regional and global stability.”
Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has called on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its grave violations of international laws and human rights.
The Ameer added, “The top political and military leadership responsible for this devastation must face justice for their actions, which they have carried out with impunity and without remorse.”
Emphasising the need for long-term solutions, he stated that the ceasefire agreement should not be viewed as the final resolution.
“To achieve lasting peace, the root causes of occupation and injustice must be addressed. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind reiterates its call for the establishment of a free and sovereign Palestinian state. Permanent peace in the Middle East can only be achieved through justice for the Palestinian people, the right of return for Palestinian refugees, and the complete liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Quds. We urge the global community to take decisive steps to resolve these fundamental issues and pave the way for coexistence, security, and stability for all.”
