Kolkata, Sep 4: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind West Bengal launched “Morality is Freedom” campaign at Bhartiya Bhasha Parishad here Sunday. The campaign was launched with an interesting discussion in the presence of Rahamathunnissa A., National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
Mrs. Rahamathunnissa delivered the speech as the chief guest in the discussion. She addressed the audience, introducing the objectives and minute details of the campaign. She explained Freedom is fundamental right for all to live peacefully and develop their full potential. However, if one’s freedom fails to honour the dignity of others and stifles their freedom to flourish, it becomes problematic.
She explained the need of moral values in society, giving an example of a person who starts using drugs thinking it is ‘my freedom, my choice’; eventually he becomes addicted and gets enslaved to drug use. He surrenders his freedom here and also impacts the lives of those around him.
Mrs. Rahamathunnissa said anything that doesn’t follow a particular code of law or system would be in chaos and appear disordered. And the entire universe operates on a regulatory system. She also highlighted the negative impact of decline of moral values in society as it increases incidents of atrocities, rapes and abuses against women. She also discussed the concern for women safety raised by Hema Commission in Kerala.
In Islamic perspective, she said, freedom is a core value. The fundamental purpose of moral values in Islam is love and care, love for Allah, the Creator, and love for his creations.
