JIH West Bengal’s ‘Sampriti Stalls’ Promote Peace and Service During Durga Puja

Kolkata: Kolkata, renowned for its grand celebration of Durga Puja, attracts visitors from across the country who come to witness the vibrant puja pandals. The festival, recognized by UNESCO as an integral part of Bengal’s cultural heritage, symbolizes unity and festivity. This year, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) West Bengal continues its longstanding tradition of promoting peace, harmony, and service during the festival by setting up ‘Sampriti Stalls’ at various locations.

The ‘Sampriti Stalls’ established by JIH Kolkata MetroCity are located at key sites in the city, including Md Ali Park on Central Avenue, Mandirtalla in Howrah, and E.M. Bypass in Topsia. These stalls serve not only as hubs for spreading the message of peace and brotherhood but also provide essential services such as medical first aid and free drinking water to festival-goers.

With the theme “Let us unite around our commonalities,” the initiative encourages communal harmony by engaging with people from all walks of life. Medical professionals from Jamaat’s Doctor Forum, such as Dr. Samiul Haque and his assistant Sarwar Hasan, are present at the stalls to offer medical assistance. In addition to Kolkata, approximately 40 stalls have been established across various districts, including Murshidabad, Malda, and Nadia.

Dr. Masihur Rahman, the state president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind West Bengal, emphasized the organization’s commitment to fostering harmony.

“We are organizing as many harmony stalls as possible in every district. Our efforts will continue from Saptami to Dasami,” he said.

Dr. Rahman also addressed misconceptions about Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and Islam, stating that the stalls aim to provide accurate information through books on the Prophet’s life, human rights in Islam, and Islam’s stance on terrorism.

Secretary of JIH West Bengal, Shadab Masum, highlighted the importance of fostering cooperation and unity during the festival.

“One of the defining characteristics of Bengali culture is the spirit of cooperation and harmony. Through these stalls, we are committed to strengthening that bond,” he remarked.

The women’s wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind West Bengal is also actively involved, with volunteers distributing water, first aid, and other assistance to those visiting the puja pandals.

The ‘Sampriti Stalls’ continue to serve as a symbol of goodwill and communal harmony during one of Bengal’s most cherished festivals, embodying the spirit of unity and service.
