Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Registrar of JMI and Chief Guest, commended the CIE for orchestrating an “impactful and brilliantly curated” workshop. He stressed the critical importance of IPR awareness for researchers, innovators, and aspiring entrepreneurs. “Protecting innovation through legal frameworks such as patents, copyrights, and trademarks is essential for sustainable and scalable growth,” he remarked. Prof. Rizvi also acknowledged Jamia’s growing portfolio of patents, while pointing out that many innovations remain underutilized due to limited awareness about technology transfer mechanisms.
He further linked the workshop’s goals with national flagship missions like Startup India, Make in India, the National Education Policy (NEP), and the National Innovation and Startup Policy (NISP), urging educational institutions to build stronger frameworks for translating research into real-world impact.
The workshop also featured a compelling talk by Prof. Kafeel Ahmad, Dean of Research and Innovation at JMI, who underscored the transformative role of IPR and technology transfer in national development. His address encouraged participants to move beyond ideation and strive for implementation and impact.
Ms. Chavi Garg, Examiner of Patents & Designs at the Indian Patent Office, New Delhi, led a detailed session on patent filing and processing, offering practical guidance on documentation, legal procedures, and patent lifecycle management.
A highly engaging session on technology transfer was conducted by Shri Pradeep Dhage, Assistant Innovation Director at MoE’s Innovation Cell. He outlined clear pathways for commercializing academic research, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, and utilizing innovation ecosystems effectively.
In a special showcase segment, students from various institutions presented their innovative ideas and prototypes, reflecting the dynamism of India’s emerging startup ecosystem.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. S.M. Muzakkir, Innovation Coordinator at JMI, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Ministry of Education’s Innovation Cell, AICTE, guest speakers, institutions, and participants for their enthusiastic involvement.
This workshop reaffirmed Jamia Millia Islamia’s leadership in advancing intellectual property awareness, research-driven entrepreneurship, and alignment of academic pursuits with national developmental priorities.
