JNMC Neurosurgeon Showcases Advanced Endoscopic Spine Surgery in Hyderabad

Aligarh: Dr. Ahmed Ansari, Neurosurgeon at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University, performed a live demonstration of a two-level spine decompression surgery during a dedicated endoscopic seminar and operative workshop held at Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad as a guest operating faculty member.

The one-day academic event was attended by neurosurgery consultants and residents from across the region. Dr. Ansari also delivered expert lectures focusing on biportal endoscopic spine techniques and critical strategies for complication avoidance during spine surgeries.

Highlighting the advantages of Biportal Endoscopic Spine Surgery (UBE), Dr. Ansari explained that it is currently among the most advanced minimally invasive techniques used for treating spinal disorders such as prolapsed discs, degenerative spine conditions, and fractures. The procedure, performed through two incisions smaller than one centimetre, facilitates faster recovery and allows most patients to be discharged within 24 hours. He shared that he has performed over 100 such surgeries, offering relief to patients with back pain, slipped discs, and spinal compression.

Dr. Ansari received his specialised training in endoscopic spine surgery from the renowned Wooridul Spine Hospital in Seoul, South Korea.

Prof. Raman M. Sharma, Chairman, Department of Neurosurgery, JNMC, emphasised the growing role of UBE in contemporary spine care, adding that the department regularly performs such procedures with excellent outcomes. He further noted that JNMC is among the few government-run medical institutions in India equipped to conduct endoscopic spine surgeries and is emerging as a nationally and internationally recognised Centre of Excellence for advanced spinal interventions and craniovertebral junction disorders.

Echoing this sentiment, Prof. M.F. Hoda acknowledged the clinical benefits of these techniques, including reduced incision size, minimal blood loss, shorter hospital stays, and quicker rehabilitation.

Commending the department’s achievement, Prof. M. Habib Raza, Dean and Principal, JNMC, congratulated Dr. Ansari and the Department of Neurosurgery for their continued contributions to academic advancement and excellence in patient care.
