Jordan Bans Muslim Brotherhood, Freezes Assets Over Alleged Terror Links

Amman: In a major political development, the Jordanian government has officially banned the opposition party Muslim Brotherhood and its affiliated organizations, citing alleged involvement in terrorism. The announcement was made by Interior Minister Mazen Faraya during a press conference on Wednesday, reported the Dawat News.
The minister stated that the ban comes in light of what he described as “concrete evidence” linking the organization to terrorist activities. He further claimed that 16 suspects recently arrested for allegedly plotting against the state had confessed to having ties with the Muslim Brotherhood.
As a result, all assets, offices, and bank accounts associated with the organization have been frozen, with the ban taking immediate effect. The minister accused the group of working against national interests and inciting the youth against the state.
The move has drawn criticism from human rights observers and political analysts, who see it as a crackdown on dissent. The same set of allegations—often cited in other countries to silence political opposition—have been used, they argue, to justify the action.
The Muslim Brotherhood, a historically significant Islamist political movement, has faced increasing pressure across the Middle East in recent years, with many governments accusing it of extremism while others see it as a legitimate political force.
