New Delhi, June 2, 2024: The Joy of Urdu, a volunteer-driven organization, has revitalized the 13th-century Persian literary masterpiece “Gulistan-e-Saadi” with a bilingual publication of three of Saadi’s classic tales. This initiative, launched to mark the organization’s tenth anniversary, aims to celebrate and preserve the richness of Urdu. The book features meticulous design, a glossary, and illustrations, appealing to both children and adults.
The Joy of Urdu also celebrated the 88th birthday of Zehra Nigah, a revered contemporary Urdu poet, with a reading event in Lahore. The organization, founded by Zarminae Ansari, is dedicated to promoting Urdu through discussions, reading groups, and cultural events worldwide.
Ansari was inspired by her late friend Sabeen Mahmud, whose guidance and support were crucial in establishing the organization. Despite facing challenges, including limited funding, Ansari remains committed to the cause. The book’s launch events at prestigious Urdu festivals further highlight the organization’s impact.
The Joy of Urdu continues to focus on linguistic preservation, cultural enrichment, and social justice, ensuring the enduring legacy of Urdu in modern times.
