JUH(M) demands strict action against Ramgiri Maharaj for blasphemy
New Delhi, August 18: In a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Maharashtra Eknath Shinde, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind(M) demanded immediate strict action against the perpetrator of blasphemy. The incident triggered communal tension in Maharashtra where assembly elections are due in October this year.
Condemning in strongest terms, the objectionable and provocative statements made by Ramgiri Maharaj of Ahmednagar against Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, JUH(M) president Maulana Mahmood Asad Madani said such statements deeply hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims, as no Muslim can accept even the slightest insult to the Prophet.
It is alarming that the so-called Maharaj remains defiant in his blasphemous behavior, which indicates a deliberate attempt to challenge the integrity and sovereignty of the country, he added.
Maulana Madani called for the perpetrator to be brought to justice. He further emphasized that it’s the responsibility of the government and law enforcement agencies to prevent such incidents and take effective measures to maintain peace and order in the country.
The letter stresses that failure to take swift and stringent action in this matter could lead to an increase in communal tension, which would be detrimental to the nation’s interests.
