Juma Masjid Padamugal Hosts ‘Open Masjid Day’ to Foster Religious Harmony

Kakkanad, Ernakulam: In an effort to promote peace, brotherhood, and social harmony, the Juma Masjid at Padamugal, near Kakkanad in Ernakulam, opened its doors to people from all walks of life on Wednesday. The event, organized on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, was aimed at building bridges between different communities and fostering mutual understanding, reports The Indian Express.

The mosque, established nearly 125 years ago, welcomed visitors from various religious backgrounds as part of the ‘Open Masjid Day.’ Attendees were warmly received by the representatives of the jamaat committee. Seated in chairs, they observed the namaz, gaining insight into the customs and rituals practiced in the mosque. Visitors also had the opportunity to explore the architecture and interiors of the historic building.

“Such initiatives are essential for promoting social harmony and cohesion, which are crucial for ensuring peace and understanding among people of different beliefs and cultures,” said Anaz Kabeer, a representative of the Amity Forum.

The forum, a collective of tech professionals from Infopark, Kakkanad, partnered with the Muslim Service Society of Vazhakkala to organize the event.

Ashfaque, a member of the Muslim Service Society, noted the positive response from visitors, many of whom expressed their long-standing desire to see the inside of the mosque and experience its architecture.

“This event has helped demystify the mosque and allowed people to appreciate its cultural and religious significance,” he added.

The organizers hope that similar events will be held in mosques across other districts, further encouraging communal harmony and strengthening ties between various sections of society.
