New Delhi, Sep 1: K.C. Tyagi, a prominent spokesperson for Janata Dal (United), has stepped down from his position, according to a statement released by the party on Sunday. The resignation, attributed to “personal reasons,” comes amid speculation that Tyagi’s outspoken views on various national issues had strained the JD(U)’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), reported The Hindu.
Tyagi, who is known for his high profile in the national media, often voiced opinions that reflected the JD(U)’s divergence from the BJP, particularly on sensitive matters such as the Uniform Civil Code, the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, and India’s stance on the Palestine issue. His comments reportedly caused discomfort within the JD(U) and were seen as potentially damaging to the BJP-JD(U) alliance.
In the wake of Tyagi’s resignation, Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar has appointed Rajiv Ranjan Prasad as the new national spokesperson for the party. Sources within the JD(U) suggest that with senior leaders like Union Minister Lalan Singh and Parliamentary Party Leader Sanjay Jha based in Delhi, there was a growing consensus that these leaders should take charge of shaping the party’s relationship with the BJP without the complications that Tyagi’s public statements had previously caused.
The BJP has been making efforts to strengthen coordination and unity within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), as it seeks to dispel any reports of discord within the coalition.
