K Kavitha Begins 72‑Hour Hunger Strike, Demands Separate Muslim Quota

Hyderabad — Telangana Jagruthi president and BRS MLC K. Kavitha has commenced a 72‑hour hunger strike at Dharna Chowk near Indira Park to demand 42% reservation for Backward Classes (BCs) in education, employment, and local bodies. Simultaneously, she is pushing for a distinct 10% reservation for Muslims, expressly calling for it to be legislated separately and delinked from the BC quota, reported the Deccan Herald.
Kavitha has called upon the Telangana Congress government to clarify whether Muslims are included within the proposed 42% BC quota and demanded that a separate bill be introduced to grant Muslims the 10% reservation independently. This strategy, she argues, would place responsibility squarely on the BJP to agree to authentic BC reservation in the existing quota framework .
Police initially granted permission for the fast only between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., forcing Kavitha to end the hunger strike prematurely. The Telangana High Court rejected her plea to allow the full duration, though it removed restrictions on social media communications related to the protest. Kavitha has vowed to pursue further legal action and continue political pressure both on the state and central governments .
Kavitha has also called on various Backward Class organizations and the United Phule Front (UPF) to join her in intensifying the agitation. She warned that, unless the government acts quickly on the bills passed by the Telangana Legislative Assembly in March, protests and legal mobilization will escalate .
