5 June 2024: In a significant political development, Kalpana Soren, wife of jailed former chief minister Hemant Soren, has secured a decisive victory in the Gandey assembly bypoll. Soren defeated her nearest rival, Dilip Verma of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), by a margin of 27,149 votes, with Soren receiving 109,827 votes compared to Verma’s 82,678.
Despite trailing in the initial rounds, Soren surged ahead, demonstrating her strong political acumen and the effective campaigning by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
