Kannada Training for Ulema to Strengthen Inter-Community Bonds

Bengaluru: The Department of Minorities Development has launched a Kannada language training programme for Ulema and madrasa teachers across Karnataka. The aim is to improve communication and build mutual understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims. The programme was inaugurated by Kannada Development Authority (KDA) Chairperson Purushottama Bilimale. Scholars from various seminaries attended the event.
Mr. Bilimale said language has no religion. He stressed that knowing the regional language promotes unity. He added that the Urdu Academy can promote Urdu, and the Department of Kannada Culture can promote Kannada. No one should be forced or harassed for not knowing Kannada.
He recalled that during the freedom struggle, Muslims had opposed British rule and the English language. Later, they made major contributions to the nation, including establishing Aligarh Muslim University. He warned that communal forces exploit the lack of Kannada knowledge to spread prejudice and division.
The KDA will support Kannada training for scholars from 2,500 seminaries across the state. This will help them connect better with wider society. Minister for Minority Affairs Zameer Ahmed Khan, State Minorities Commission Chairman Nisar Ahmed (IPS), Minorities Development Corporation Chairman Altaf Ahmed Khan, Moulana Shamsuddin Bajli, and Moulana Shabbir Ahmed Nadwi were present at the launch.
