27 May 2024: Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal on Sunday strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his statement suggesting that RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav would be sent to jail after the elections, describing it as a “confession” that investigative agencies are operating under the PM’s direction.
Sibal emphasized the legal implications of Modi’s remark, questioning how the PM could guarantee Yadav’s imprisonment without due legal process. “This statement implies that law enforcement agencies are working at his behest. It is a clear admission of misuse of power, undermining our democratic processes,” Sibal stated during a press conference.
Additionally, Sibal condemned Modi for his derogatory ‘mujra’ comment about the Opposition, asserting that such language was unbecoming of any leader, let alone the Prime Minister. He accused Modi of degrading the dignity of his office and fostering a culture of hate. Sibal also criticized the Election Commission for failing to act against Modi’s violation of the model code of conduct, alleging collusion between the Commission and the ruling party.
Sibal’s remarks come as the nation approaches the final phase of polling for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, highlighting deepening political tensions and concerns over the integrity of democratic institutions in India.
