Chitradurga: A 25-year-old man from Karnataka, Wasim Sheikh, has gone viral after marrying his two best friends, Shifa Sheikh and Jannat Makhandar, in a single ceremony at MK Palace in Horapet. The wedding, held on October 16, was attended by family and friends who reportedly gave their full consent.
Videos from the event showed the groom holding hands with both brides, who wore identical bridal outfits. The trio smiled and posed for photographs as they performed rituals together, symbolising what they called unity and shared commitment.
According to local sources, the three had been close friends for several years before deciding to formalise their bond. Wasim reportedly took vows to treat both wives equally and ensure mutual respect in their marriage.
Under Indian law, polygamy is prohibited for most communities, except under specific religious allowances. This detail sparked heated debate online, with many questioning the legality and ethicality of the marriage. Some social media users praised the trio for their mutual understanding, while others criticised the arrangement as socially inappropriate.
“This is so unusual. Is it even allowed?” asked one user. Another commented humorously, “Bhai yahan ek nahi ho rahi hai, aur tumne do karli.” Despite the controversy, the families of all three have maintained that the marriage was consensual and based on mutual affection.
The incident follows similar cases in Telangana and Gujarat where men married two women in joint ceremonies.
