Karnataka Transfers Mangaluru Commissioner and SP Amid Rising Communal Tensions

In an administrative reshuffle, the Karnataka government has transferred the Mangaluru Police Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police amid escalating communal tensions in the region. This move comes against the backdrop of growing concerns over law and order, particularly in the communally sensitive coastal areas of the state, reported the Madhyamam.
IPS officer Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain, who was serving as the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner, has been replaced by Anupam Agrawal. Agrawal previously held the post of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Karnataka State Reserve Police. Jain will now serve as DIG (Forest Cell) in Bengaluru.
Additionally, Dakshina Kannada Superintendent of Police C.B. Ryshyanth has been transferred and replaced by Rishikesh Sonawane. Ryshyanth has been posted to Bengaluru as the Commander of the District Reserve Guard.
The coastal belt of Karnataka, particularly Mangaluru and surrounding areas, has seen repeated flare-ups of communal tension. The police leadership change is seen as part of the government’s attempt to stabilize the situation and restore public confidence in law enforcement.
While the official reason for the transfers has not been stated, political observers believe it may be an attempt to neutralize the growing unrest and respond to criticisms regarding the handling of communal incidents in the region.
