Kashmiri Pharmacy Student Attacked in Nagpur Amid Rising Hate Incidents Post-Pahalgam Violence

In a concerning development following the recent Pahalgam terror attack, a Kashmiri student pursuing a Pharmacy degree was brutally assaulted by local residents in Nagpur’s Committee area on Sunday, April 27. The incident marks yet another targeted act of violence against Kashmiris in various parts of the country.
The victim, a native of Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir, was reportedly waiting for a fellow Kashmiri friend when a group of locals confronted him, questioning his presence and soon launching into a violent assault. It was only when his friend returned and clarified that they were both students that the attackers ceased and allowed them to leave.
Despite the severity of the attack, the Nagpur Police have not filed any case, citing that the victim did not approach them with an official complaint. A senior police officer stated that the motive behind the attack remains unclear and said that multiple angles are being examined.
Speaking to local media, the student expressed his belief that the assault was driven by communal hatred, intensified by ongoing attacks targeting Kashmiri students across the nation in the aftermath of the Pahalgam incident.
Nasir Khuehami, the National Convener of the J&K Students Association, raised the matter publicly on social media platform X, tagging the Maharashtra Chief Minister and demanding immediate action. He later confirmed that IGP Manoj Kumar Sharma contacted him, assuring that those responsible would be brought to justice.
