24 Apr. 24: Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized that no civilized nation in the world should base citizenship on religion, condemning the BJP-led government’s Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) as contrary to India’s secular values.
Speaking at an election rally in Mattannur, Kerala, with just four days remaining until the Lok Sabha polls in the state, Vijayan criticized the Congress for what he alleged was a lack of significant protest against the CAA, despite widespread opposition aimed at defending secularism.
Vijayan noted the absence of Congress leaders among those arrested during protests against the CAA in New Delhi, contrasting this with leaders from various parties, including Communists, who were detained.
The Chief Minister further questioned the Congress party’s commitment to secularism, asking why it had not opposed the RSS agenda being implemented across the country.
Vijayan reaffirmed the LDF government’s stance against religious divisions, underscoring Kerala’s opposition to policies that segregate people based on religion.
He expressed optimism about a strong pro-LDF sentiment during the election campaign, predicting significant success for the ruling front in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April 26.
The comments made by Vijayan at the election rally reflect ongoing political discussions in Kerala ahead of the national elections.
