New Delhi: A Delhi Sessions Court has granted 10-day interim bail to activist Khalid Saifi, founder of United Against Hate, allowing him to attend a family wedding and spend time with his ailing mother. The order was issued by Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai on October 13, 2025, in connection with the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case.
The court permitted Saifi to remain out of custody from October 14 to October 23. His request was supported by documents verifying the wedding of his niece and medical reports confirming his mother’s condition. The court accepted these humanitarian grounds, despite objections from the prosecution, which argued that Saifi’s presence outside jail could influence the ongoing case.
Saifi was directed to furnish a personal bond and a surety bond of ₹20,000 each. The court specified that the interim bail is restricted to attending the family event and caring for his mother. Any violation of the conditions would invite immediate revocation of the bail.
Khalid Saifi has been in custody for his alleged role in the 2020 Delhi riots conspiracy case, one of the most high-profile prosecutions following the communal violence in North-East Delhi. His temporary release marks another instance of courts balancing humanitarian considerations with ongoing legal proceedings.
