Khalid Saifi, founder of United Against Hate, has been in custody since March 21, 2020, in connection with the 2020 North-East Delhi riots. Charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), he has been denied bail multiple times.
In April 2022, a Delhi court rejected his bail plea, citing his alleged involvement in conspiratorial meetings before the riots and his connections with other accused individuals. In November 2024, the Delhi High Court dismissed his petition challenging the framing of attempt-to-murder charges against him.
Saifi’s legal team argues that the evidence against him consists of mere messages, which they claim are innocuous. They are seeking bail on the grounds of parity, as several co-accused have already been granted bail
