Patna: A district court in Patna has granted interim protection from arrest to educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, in connection with a firing incident outside his coaching institute earlier this month.
The court issued the relief while hearing his anticipatory bail plea. It allowed the police investigation to continue and permitted questioning of Khan Sir. However, it directed authorities not to take coercive action, including arrest, during the period of protection.
The case stems from violence reported outside Khan Global Studies Institute in Kadamkuan on June 2. According to police, a group of 15 to 20 individuals allegedly vandalised the coaching centre, damaged property, removed posters, and threw stones.
During the disturbance, shots were allegedly fired outside the institute, leaving a security guard injured. CCTV footage circulating on social media reportedly showed security personnel firing into the air. Police later arrested two guards employed by the institute.
Investigators claimed the guards stated during questioning that they fired from licensed rifles on the instructions of Khan Sir. Based on these statements, police named him and two others in a First Information Report registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
Khan Sir has denied involvement in the alleged firing. His legal team argued before the court that there is no direct evidence linking him to the incident and described the case as an attempt to damage his reputation. The defence also suggested the guards may have acted in self-defence after the institute came under attack.
Police are examining CCTV footage, witness statements, and forensic evidence as part of the investigation. Authorities are also exploring whether rivalry between coaching institutes contributed to the violence.
Further hearings in the matter are expected as the investigation progresses.
