Kharge raps BJP over ‘batenge toh katenge’ slogan, says BJP plays divisive politics to mislead people

– Abdul Bari Masoud

Nagpur:  Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge today lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party for its divisive slogan of ‘batenge toh katenge’, saying, the party has always resorted to divisive politics and sloganeering to divert public attention and mislead people.

Addressing a press conference here today, Kharge said while the UP Chief Minister was raising the slogan of ‘batenge toh katenge’, Prime Minister Modi was saying, ‘ek hain toh safe hain’.  Taking a dig, he said it seemed as if there was a competition between Modi and Yogi for coining such slogans, and added that they should decide whose slogan should be propagated.

The Congress president also taunted the claims of nationalism and patriotism by BJP leaders, challenging them to name a single leader of theirs who had sacrificed his life for the country as Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi did.

He also criticised BJP’s baseless reference to Rahul Gandhi as a supporter of ‘urban Naxals’ for displaying a copy of the Constitution with red cover. Referring to the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition government in Maharashtra, he said, its foundations were laid down on fraud. He pointed out how BJP bribed MLAs and stole a popular mandate. He said it was an opportunistic alliance ruling in Maharashtra with the worst type of governance.

He said, Maharashtra, which used to be one of the most prosperous states in the country with people coming from different places to work and earn their livelihood here, has been completely destroyed. He said there was widespread unemployment among youth, distress among farmers besides rising problems of drug addiction. He said, women were no longer feeling safe in Maharashtra.

Kharge reiterated allegations against Modi that he always lies, and he lies loudly. He pointed out how he falsely promised to deposit Rs.15 lakhs in every Indian’s bank account after getting back the black money allegedly stashed in foreign banks, providing 2 crore jobs every year and doubling farmers’ income. He said, Modi did not fulfil a single promise.
