Kharge Says Bihar Polls Will Mark Beginning of End for Modi Government

Patna: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP while addressing the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Patna, stating that the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections will mark the beginning of the end of the Modi government’s “corrupt rule” at the Centre.

Kharge targeted the BJP on multiple fronts, accusing it of “vote theft, economic mismanagement, unemployment, social polarisation, and weakening autonomous institutions.”

Raising concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Congress chief alleged that a conspiracy is underway to delete millions of voters across the country, beginning with Bihar. He stressed that “vote theft means theft of rations, pensions, scholarships, and rights of the poor, Dalits, tribals, backward classes, and minorities.”

Kharge also highlighted Bihar’s challenges, including a 15% unemployment rate, lack of flood management in Kosi and Gandak regions, and the unfulfilled promises of reviving the state’s sugar industry. “The so-called double engine government has failed to deliver. Nitish Kumar has been reduced to a liability by the BJP,” he said.

Taking aim at Prime Minister Modi, Kharge noted the “failure of demonetisation, flawed GST policies, doubling of imports from China, and unkept promises of job creation.” He also accused Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath of hypocrisy, citing his past opposition to reservations despite current caste census debates.

Kharge declared that the Congress, along with its allies, would ensure employment, education, healthcare, and social justice for Bihar, vowing to make the dream of a “golden Bihar” a reality.

Top Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Ajay Maken, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, Sachin Pilot, and Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar, attended the meeting. The state polls are expected in November 2025.
