Mangaluru: The Department of Orthopaedics at Kanachur Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), hosted an engaging and insightful guest lecture by Prof. Dr. Heiko Grachien – a globally renowned expert in orthopaedic surgery on December 9, under the initiative of Dr. K.S. Arif – Professor & Head, Department of Orthopaedics, KIMS. The expert lecture centred on ‘Robotics and Newer Implants in Total Knee Replacement’.
Dr. Harramb Mittal – Assistant Professor, Department of Orthopaedics, welcomed the audience and set the tone for what would be a highly informative discussion. Dr. Shahnawaz Manipady – Dean of KIMS, introduced and welcomed Prof. Grachien, expressing gratitude for his presence and highlighting the importance of his contributions to modern orthopaedic surgery.
Dr. Haji U.K. Monu, Chairman KIMS, warmly welcomed and felicitated Prof. Dr. Grachien, acknowledging his efforts in advancing the field of robotics and implant design in total knee replacement.
About 35 delegates, including faculty, residents, and postgraduate students from the Department of Orthopaedics shared in the deliberation.
The take home message was – through these advancements Dr Grachien had observed faster patient recovery, reduced complications and better long-term success rates.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where participants had the opportunity to engage directly with Prof. Dr. Grachien, who provided thoughtful responses, enriched by his extensive experience, and offered practical suggestions for overcoming barriers to the adoption of advanced surgical techniques.
