Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah Dispute: Allahabad HC Hears Both Sides, Next Hearing on July 4

In the ongoing legal battle over the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Eidgah dispute, the Allahabad High Court on Friday heard arguments from both Hindu and Muslim sides. The Hindu side urged the court to refer to the Shahi Eidgah mosque as a “disputed structure” in the official records of the proceedings—a move strongly opposed by the Muslim side, reported the Hindustan Times.
Justice Ram Manohar Narain Mishra is presiding over 18 suits filed by Hindu petitioners. These suits seek possession of the land, demolition of the existing Shahi Eidgah mosque, restoration of a temple claimed to have existed at the site believed to be the birthplace of Lord Krishna, and a permanent injunction against the mosque.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for July 4, 2025.
Previously, on August 1, 2024, the court dismissed the Muslim side’s applications challenging the maintainability of the Hindu worshippers’ suits. It ruled that all suits were legally maintainable and were not restricted by the Limitation Act, the Waqf Act, or the Places of Worship Act, 1991—which protects religious places from being altered as per their status on August 15, 1947.
The central issue in the case revolves around claims that the Shahi Eidgah mosque in Mathura was constructed during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after demolishing a temple marking the birthplace of Lord Krishna.
