Bengaluru: The Welfare Party of India (WPI) has alleged a complete breakdown of law and order in Karnataka and demanded the immediate resignation of the Home Minister, holding him morally responsible for the prevailing chaos.
WPI State President Advocate Taher Hussain said criminal elements are operating with impunity, citing the actions of Puneeth Kerehalli, a murder accused, who has been openly harassing migrant workers from Bihar and Jharkhand by falsely branding them as Bangladeshi immigrants.
He said videos circulating on social media show poor labourers being threatened and forcibly evicted, yet the police have failed to take strict action. “No individual has the authority to identify illegal immigrants or terrorise innocent workers. This failure reflects the collapse of the Home Department,” he said.
Referring to the recent killing of a Jharkhand-based labourer in Dakshina Kannada after he was accused of being a Bangladeshi, Hussain said the incident exposes the dangerous deterioration of law and order.
He warned that allowing goons and communal vigilantes to take the law into their own hands would severely disrupt social harmony. Hussain also raised concern over the growing drug menace, pointing to repeated raids by Maharashtra Police in Bengaluru and Mysuru as evidence of intelligence failure.
The WPI reiterated its demand for the Home Minister’s resignation and urged the government to act decisively to restore the rule of law.
