Lebanon Forms New Government Under PM Nawaf Salam

Beirut: Lebanon has officially formed a new 24-member government under Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, marking the country’s first full-fledged cabinet since 2022. The announcement was made on Saturday by President Joseph Aoun, who signed the decree approving the new administration.
Speaking at the presidential palace, Salam emphasized that his government would be reform-oriented, aiming to revive Lebanon’s economy, uphold the rule of law, and restore public trust. He underscored the need to implement the 1989 Taif Agreement, which ended Lebanon’s civil war, and to push forward economic and financial reforms.
A key priority for the new administration will be ensuring security and stability, particularly by overseeing the full implementation of UN Resolution 1701 and advocating for Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanese territory. “Reconstruction and stability are not mere promises but firm commitments,” Salam affirmed.
The newly formed government, evenly divided between Christian and Muslim ministers, comes at a crucial time as Lebanon grapples with economic distress and post-conflict recovery. Salam pledged to rebuild the war-affected southern regions and improve Lebanon’s standing within the international community. The swift formation of the cabinet offers hope for political stability and economic revival.
