New Delhi: The Left Front, comprising all five constituent parties, has urged citizens to observe October 7, 2024, as a day of solidarity with Palestine and to advocate for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. This date marks one year since the onset of what they describe as Israel’s “genocidal war” in the region.
In a joint statement, the Left Front condemned the extensive violence inflicted on Palestinians in Gaza following Hamas’s attack on Israel last October. They reported that nearly 42,000 Palestinians, predominantly women and children, have lost their lives due to the conflict, with The Lancet estimating total casualties could exceed 85,000 when considering indirect deaths.
The International Court of Justice (ICJ) characterized Israel’s military actions as potentially genocidal earlier this year and has called for an end to hostilities. The Left Front criticized Israel for rejecting meaningful ceasefire discussions and for ongoing violence against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank despite the ICJ call.
As global protests against the conflict continue, the Left Front plans demonstrations and meetings on October 7, demanding an immediate ceasefire, urging the Indian government to cease arms exports to Israel, and advocating for a two-State solution to establish an independent Palestinian state.
The statement was endorsed by leaders including Prakash Karat (CPI(M)), Dipankar Bhattacharya (CPI(ML) Liberation), D. Raja (CPI), Manoj Bhattacharya (RSP), and G. Devarajan (AIFB).
