Lok Sabha Adjourned Till March 10 Amid Uproar Over JPC Report on Waqf Bill

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned until March 10 after a heated debate over the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, tabled by JPC Chairman and BJP MP Jagadambika Pal during the ongoing Budget Session. Opposition members protested against the alleged exclusion of their dissent notes from the report, prompting disruptions in both Houses of Parliament.
Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, criticized the report, calling it “anti-democratic” and alleging that dissenting views had been suppressed. As protests intensified, Union Home Minister Amit Shah assured that the government had no objections to including the omitted notes.
The Lok Sabha had already witnessed earlier disruptions when Opposition members protested against the allocation of the Khavda energy project to the Adani Group. Despite the chaos, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman introduced the Income Tax Bill, 2025, urging the Speaker to refer it to a Select Committee.
With proceedings stalled, Speaker Om Birla announced that the House would reconvene on March 10. The first part of the Budget Session recorded a productivity rate of 112%, with extensive debates on the President’s address and the Union Budget.
The second phase of the Budget Session is scheduled from March 10 to April 4.
