Lok Sabha Elections 2024 Phase 5: Polling Underway in 49 Key Constituencies

20 May 2024: Polling for the fifth phase of the India General Elections 2024 has begun across 49 constituencies, including key regions in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal. Notably, all constituencies in and around Mumbai are voting today, along with 14 critical constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Raebareli, and Amethi.

This phase marks the conclusion of Lok Sabha polling in Maharashtra, with 13 out of its 48 constituencies casting their votes. It also signifies the final phase of voting for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, as one of its five constituencies participates. Additionally, the Union Territory of Ladakh is voting in this phase.

In response to lower turnouts in earlier phases, the Election Commission has urged voters to participate in larger numbers, emphasizing the importance of voting with responsibility and pride. “Until now, the Lok Sabha elections 2024 have seen a voter turnout of about 66.95%. Around 451 million people have already voted during the first four phases of the ongoing general elections,” the EC stated.

Today’s voting is crucial for several high-profile and strategic constituencies, with significant political implications for the overall election results.
