Lucknow Police Find No Illegal Bangladeshi Migrants After Extensive Verification Drive

After months of intensive investigation and door-to-door verification, the Lucknow Police have reported that no illegal Bangladeshi nationals were found residing in the city, contradicting widespread claims that had fueled public debate in recent months.

For a considerable period, discussions had circulated in political and social circles suggesting that large numbers of undocumented Bangladeshi and Rohingya migrants were living in Uttar Pradesh’s capital. The allegations had prompted concern among residents and triggered calls for stricter monitoring of suspected settlements.

In response, the police launched a comprehensive verification drive that involved physical visits to homes, careful scrutiny of identity documents, and background checks of individuals who had come under suspicion. According to officials, the exercise was designed to establish facts and prevent misinformation from spreading.

The investigation revealed that many of the people previously suspected of being foreign nationals were, in fact, Indian citizens from districts such as Barpeta and Kamrup in Assam. Authorities said these individuals had migrated internally in search of livelihood opportunities and were largely employed in sanitation work, including cleaning and waste collection.

Police officials emphasized that the verification process was conducted thoroughly to ensure accuracy. The findings have raised questions about earlier political assertions regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in the city.

While the report may help ease fears among local residents, it also highlights the challenges authorities face in distinguishing between undocumented foreigners and internal migrants in a country with significant interstate movement for employment.

The Lucknow Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and stated that such verification drives would continue whenever necessary to address public concerns. Officials also urged citizens to rely on verified information and avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that could create unnecessary panic or social tension.
