Bengaluru: The Karnataka government has appointed senior IPS officer MA Saleem as the new Director General and Inspector General of Police and Head of the State Police Force. The order confirms his elevation after he held the post on concurrent charge since May.
Saleem, a 1993 batch officer, brings over three decades of service with experience in 26 different positions. He last served as the Director General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department. Born in Chikkabanavara near Bengaluru, Saleem holds postgraduate degrees in commerce and police management.
He is widely acknowledged for his role in addressing Bengaluru’s traffic problems. His work as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic East), Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Security) and later as Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic) earned him recognition.
His appointment is seen as an important development for Karnataka, as he takes charge of the state police leadership.
