Madhya Pradesh HC Judge Sentences 2 IAS Officers for Contempt, Division Bench Grants Relief

Bhopal: A single-judge bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday sentenced two IAS officers to seven days of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 each in a contempt case, reported the Times of India.
Justice G.S. Ahluwalia passed the order against Shailendra Singh, former collector of Chhatarpur, and Amar Bahadur Singh, former additional collector and CEO of Chhatarpur Zila Panchayat. The contempt petition was filed against both officers for allegedly disregarding court directions.
The officers appeared before the court on Thursday and tendered an apology. Despite this, the judge proceeded with the punishment.
However, in a major relief, a division bench led by Chief Justice R.V. Malimath stayed the operation of the single-judge order, thereby halting their imprisonment.
The matter is now expected to be heard further before the division bench.
