Sikh Brothers Donate Land for New Mosque in Umarpura, Bringing Relief to Local Muslims

UMARPURA: The Muslim residents of Umarpura in Malerkotla district gathered in joy as the Madinah Mosque opened on land donated by Sikh brothers. The new mosque ended years of hardship for families who walked to a nearby village for every prayer.

The inauguration took place on Sunday in the presence of Punjab’s Shahi Imam, Maulana Muhammad Usman Ludhianvi. Former sarpanch Sukh Jandar Singh, who donated the land, joined the prayers along with Sikh families and Muslim scholars.

Local Muslims had waited for a mosque for many years. An elderly resident said the moment felt like a long delayed relief. The Sikh families stepped in when they saw their neighbours struggling without a prayer space. They gave six acres of land and five lakh rupees for the construction.

The Shahi Imam said the gesture showed a clear example of harmony at a time when rising hate targets Muslims in many regions. He added that the cooperation in Umarpura sends a message of unity to the country.

Sukh Jandar Singh said he felt calm seeing the mosque near his home. He noted that the Muslims of the village always lived with dignity and deserved a place to pray close to their homes.

Young residents described the mosque as a sign of hope. They said the support from Sikh families reminded them that acts of care still exist in difficult times.

As the first call to prayer echoed across the village, many felt a deep sense of comfort. The mosque now stands as a house of worship and a symbol of communal goodwill.
