Mahakumbh Tragedy: Negligence Claims Innocent Lives, JIH Demands Accountability

New Delhi: Prayagraj witnessed a heart-breaking tragedy as a devastating stampede at the Mahakumbh claimed the lives of several innocent devotees. Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Prof. Mohammad Salim Engineer, Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and called for immediate corrective measures to prevent such disasters in the future.

“This unfortunate incident once again highlights the urgent need for meticulous planning and crowd management at massive religious gatherings. The safety of pilgrims must be the highest priority,” Prof. Salim stated.

He stressed that seamless arrangements for ordinary devotees should not be overlooked and warned against administrative negligence, which often prioritises VIP services over safety of the masses.

Criticising the Uttar Pradesh government and the Centre for failing to ensure a secure environment, he urged authorities to take responsibility and address the glaring lapses in their arrangements.

“The lives of common pilgrims deserve the same level of care and protection as VIPs. The administration must wake up to its fundamental responsibility before more lives are lost,” he asserted.

JIH stands in solidarity with the victims’ families, calling for swift action and a comprehensive review of security protocols at major religious gatherings to prevent such tragedies in the future.
