Jalgaon, Maharashtra — In a shocking case of mob violence, 21-year-old Suleman Rahim Khan from Chhoti Betawad in Maharashtra’s Jamner taluk was kidnapped, brutally assaulted at multiple locations, and his body dumped outside his home. His grieving family, who tried to rescue him, were also attacked during the incident, reported the New Indian Express.
According to police sources, Suleman — who had recently completed Class 12 and was preparing to apply for police recruitment — was forcibly taken in a vehicle by a mob of around 15 men. He was reportedly beaten with sticks, iron rods, and bare hands at different locations before being brought back to his locality, where he was again thrashed. The attackers chased him to Chhoti Betawad and left him outside his home in a severely injured state. He was later declared dead at the hospital due to fatal injuries.
Witnesses say the attack was triggered after Suleman was seen at a café near a local police station with a 17-year-old girl from another community. The victim’s father, Rahim Khan, stated that every part of his son’s body bore wounds and scars, and described how he, his wife, and daughter were physically assaulted while trying to save Suleman.
The murder has left the local community tense. Family members, activists, and residents have demanded swift and strict punishment for the perpetrators. A sit-in protest was held outside Jamner police station on Monday evening, prompting Jalgaon Superintendent of Police Maheshwari Reddy to meet with demonstrators.
Police have registered an FIR under charges of murder, kidnapping, rioting, and unlawful assembly under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities confirmed that four men have been arrested so far, while five others have been identified and are being pursued.
