Mahayuti Secures Clear Majority in Maharashtra Civic Polls

Mumbai: The ruling Mahayuti alliance recorded a decisive performance in the Maharashtra municipal councils and nagar panchayat elections, winning 207 of the 288 local bodies where polls took place. Data released by the State Election Commission placed the coalition far ahead of its rivals across the state.

Within the alliance, the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the strongest force with victories in 117 civic bodies. The Shiv Sena secured control over 53 councils, while the Nationalist Congress Party won 37. On the opposition side, the Congress won 28 councils, the Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray won nine, and the NCP led by Sharad Pawar secured seven. Together, the Mahavikas Agadi alliance won 44 local bodies. Other registered parties from outside Maharashtra won four councils. Candidates from unrecognised parties won 28, while independents secured five.

District-wise results showed a strong BJP presence in Nagpur, where the party won 22 councils and nagar panchayats. The NCP recorded its best district performance in Pune with victories in 10 local bodies. No other party crossed seven wins in any single district. The Shiv Sena achieved its highest district tally in Jalgaon with six councils. The Congress led among opposition parties in Chandrapur with seven wins. NCP led by Sharad Pawar and Shiv Sena led by Uddhav Thackeray recorded limited district-level gains.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked voters and party workers, crediting grassroots efforts for the mandate. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said the results reflected statewide support beyond traditional strongholds. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also expressed gratitude to workers and supporters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the Mahayuti leadership and cadre for the outcome.
