Malaysian Muslim Body Urges UN to Enforce Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza

Kuala Lumpur: The Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organizations (MAPIM) has urged the United Nations to take immediate and decisive action to enforce a binding ceasefire in Gaza. In a statement addressed to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, MAPIM President Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid questioned the global community’s inaction amid ongoing Israeli assaults, reported the UN news.
“Your Excellency, is the world waiting for a second full year of genocide in Gaza?” he asked, emphasizing the severe humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.
Over the past year, Israeli airstrikes and military operations have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinian civilians, with millions displaced and basic necessities such as food and medical aid being cut off. The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has already acknowledged a plausible case of genocide, yet international intervention remains insufficient.
MAPIM has called on the UN to take concrete steps, including:
1. Enforcing an immediate and binding ceasefire to protect civilians.
2. Holding Israel accountable for war crimes through legal mechanisms.
3. Lifting the blockade on humanitarian aid and ensuring unrestricted access.
4. Imposing diplomatic and economic sanctions on Israel until it complies with international law.
“The credibility of the United Nations is at stake. If it fails to act decisively, history will remember those who had the power to stop these crimes but remained silent,” Abdul Hamid stated.
The call for action comes amid growing global pressure to end the violence in Gaza, as humanitarian conditions deteriorate. With Israel continuing its operations, MAPIM insists that the world must not allow another year of mass killings, starvation, and destruction.
