Mamata Banerjee Slams PM Modi Over Double Standards on Muslims, Waqf Act

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, April 16, accusing him of double standards in his treatment of the Muslim community and calling the Waqf (Amendment) Act “atrocious” and “anti-federal.”
Speaking at a gathering with Muslim clerics, Banerjee urged the Prime Minister not to implement the controversial Act, warning that it would only serve to divide the country further. She also criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah, accusing him of inflicting maximum damage to the nation for personal political gain.
Reiterating her stand, Banerjee said the Act would not be enforced in West Bengal and urged religious leaders to directly convey their concerns to President Droupadi Murmu and the Prime Minister.
In a sharp critique, Banerjee said, “If you go to Dubai, whose hospitality do you accept? If you go to Saudi Arabia, whom do you embrace? You say one thing in India and another abroad. These double standards will not work. You should have some shame.”
She questioned why her participation in events of other faiths is seen as appeasement while the PM’s visits to Arab nations are not scrutinized in the same way.
Promising to scrap “anti-people” laws passed by the BJP-led central government, Banerjee declared, “Just wait for one more year. The Centre will change, and all these unjust laws will be repealed.”
She also lashed out at NDA allies, including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, for their silence on the Waqf Act, implying they remained quiet to protect their positions of power.
Banerjee concluded by calling on all INDIA bloc parties to unite against rising violence and reaffirmed her government’s commitment to communal harmony.
