Man Arrested for Inciting Communal Tensions by Pretending to be Muslim in Viral Video

Agra June 7, 2024: In a concerning incident aimed at inflaming communal tensions, Dhirendra Raghav, a YouTuber, has been arrested by the New Agra police for posting a provocative video. The video, which went viral on social media, depicted Raghav wearing a skull cap and making inflammatory remarks against Hindus while pretending to be a Muslim.

Following the announcement of the Lok Sabha election results, Raghav created and disseminated a reel in which he expressed incendiary views, targeting Hindus and BJP supporters. The video contained derogatory comments intended to provoke and incite communal discord. As a result, the New Agra police arrested Raghav on Thursday evening under sections pertaining to disrupting communal harmony.

Raghav, who resides in Kunj Extension on Mau Road, New Agra, has a history of making controversial statements and posting inflammatory content online. His recent video, shared after the BJP’s seat count reduced, falsely portrayed himself as a Muslim criticizing Hindus for their political choices. The video implied that Hindus narrowly escaped repercussions and used offensive language to further the narrative.

DCP City Suraj Kumar Rai confirmed the arrest, stating that the reel contained inflammatory language and was intended to disturb communal peace. Following numerous complaints and objections from the public, the police took swift action to detain Raghav.

This incident isn’t Raghav’s first encounter with the law. He was previously apprehended on Wednesday for creating similar provocative content but was released on bail from the ACP court. However, due to persistent complaints and the video’s widespread dissemination, police re-arrested him on Thursday, and formal charges have now been filed.

Raghav, who has approximately 27,000 followers on Instagram, admitted that he created the controversial reel to increase his viewership. The video garnered significant engagement, with over 15,000 likes and 3,700 comments, before being shared widely across other social media platforms.

The police have reiterated their commitment to monitoring social media for incendiary posts and maintaining communal harmony in the wake of election results. Raghav is scheduled to be presented in court on Friday.

This arrest underscores the importance of responsible social media use and the severe consequences of using such platforms to incite communal violence.
