Agra: A man named Nazruddin from Teela Nandram locality was arrested on Friday for allegedly placing animal flesh inside Agra’s Jama Masjid. The incident occurred under the Mantola Police Station limits and was swiftly investigated using CCTV footage, as confirmed by Agra Police Commissionerate on social media platform X.
Police received a tip-off around 7:30 am on Friday. CCTV from Thursday night showed the suspect entering the mosque and placing a packet inside before leaving. A scooty used in transporting the meat helped police trace the accused. Investigation led to the meat shop where it was purchased, and interrogation of the shopkeeper confirmed Nazruddin’s identity.
Over 100 police officers were deployed. The recovered meat was sent for lab testing to identify its type. A case has been registered, and Nazruddin has been placed under judicial custody.
Authorities are still probing his motive. Officials haven’t disclosed whether it was intentional or otherwise. The incident has raised tensions, but police assured strict action against any effort to disturb communal harmony.
