In a shocking incident in Bhilai’s Nandini area, a 35-year-old man brutally murdered his elderly grandmother and desecrated a temple, reportedly driven by a bizarre belief. The accused, identified as Gulshan Goswami, tied his 70-year-old grandmother, Rukhmani Goswami, to a chair on Saturday night and killed her, using a sharp weapon. The crime occurred around 7 p.m. in Nankatti village, as per a report by the ETV Bharat.
Following the brutal attack, Gulshan collected his grandmother’s blood and smeared it on the Shivling in a nearby temple, writing the message “Shiv is here” in a disturbing act of superstition. He then attempted to take his own life by injuring himself with the same weapon. The commotion alerted neighbours, who quickly informed the police.
Upon receiving the report, law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and transported Gulshan to a hospital for treatment. Manish Sharma, the officer in-charge of Nandini Police Station, confirmed that the motive behind this gruesome act is still unclear and will only be revealed after the accused is interrogated. The shocking incident has left the local villagers in a state of disbelief and horror.
This incident highlights the deep-rooted superstitions that still plague certain sections of society, leading to tragic outcomes. In many cases, irrational beliefs can manifest in dangerous and violent ways, as seen in this case where a religious symbol was desecrated following a heinous crime. Authorities and social leaders must continue to promote education and awareness to combat such superstitions and prevent further tragedies.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need to address the underlying societal issues that fuel such misguided actions.
