Mangaluru: Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal has issued a clarification regarding a viral video that falsely claims protesters used a police vehicle during a demonstration against the Waqf Amendment Act near Shah Garden in Adyar. He called the claims “false and misleading.”, reported the Varta Bharati.
According to Commissioner Agrawal, the confusion arose when a government vehicle, assigned to an Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic Sub-Division), was seen at the site shortly after the protest concluded. However, he clarified that no protester misused the vehicle.
He explained that the vehicle was utilized in an emergency when a 16-year-old boy was hit by a tempo traveller near the protest site due to alleged rash driving. A woman constable present at the scene, with the help of local citizens, stopped the nearby ACP vehicle to rush the injured teenager to a hospital.
The boy, who suffered a leg injury, is being treated at a private hospital in Adyar. The tempo traveller involved in the accident has been seized, and the driver taken into custody. A case has been registered and investigation is ongoing.
Commissioner Agrawal emphasized that the police acted in good faith to save a life. “In such situations, saving lives takes priority. Unfortunately, some people are attempting to politicize a humanitarian act,” he said.
