New Delhi, Feb. 1: Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar and his daughter Suranya Aiyar have received notice to evacuate their Jangpura house for their social media post where they are accused of criticizing the Ram Temple consecration event on January 22. The Resident’s Welfare Association (RWA) notification has also urged people to refrain from ‘rants that can disturb the peace’.
“We do not appreciate a resident rant which may disturb the peace in the colony or hurt religious sentiments of the residents,” the notice read.
“In case you think what you have done in protesting against the consecration of Ram mandir at Ayodhya, we would suggest you to kindly move out to another colony where people can turn blind eye to such hatred,” it added.
“You may do whatever in politics for the good of your country, but please remember whatever you say and your actions count thus bringing good or bad name to the colony. Therefore, you are requested to please refrain from making such posts/comments,” the notice said.
Suranya Aiyar, in her Facebook post on January 20, had said she is fasting in protest against the ‘Pran Pratishtha’ ceremony of the Ram Mandir and the fast was an expression of love and sorrow to fellow Muslim citizens.
On January 31, she wrote on Facebook, “I am going to try and avoid a media circus as I believe that we all in India deserve better. Let us stop abusing each other and try some thinking instead. Jai Hind!” She has also released two video messages, in Hindi and English, to address reports on mainstream television media over the RWA’s note.
Suranya says that she is 49 years old and has lived in this country all her life and that she has worked in different fields – all of which are known to people. “So I hope that this gives everybody an opportunity to think about where we are going, and how we are going and whether we want to become like this,” she adds.
