Imphal, 14 Sep: The cadre of ZRA (Zomi Revolutionary Army), a Christian Kuki-Zo tribal armed group, beat Sabir Ahmad, a Sub-Inspector of Manipur police last Sunday.
Sabir along with two other Muslims went to Churachandpur, a Kuki-Zo dominated town, in a Creta car. The ZRA cadre tortured him because of a Salai Taret sticker on the car. Salai Taret stickers represent Meitei revivalist groups, who are at war with Kuki-Zo tribals. The sticker was put on cars by Meitei women collecting donations from vehicles passing their checkpoints on the roads. The car was also damaged beyond repair.
The ZRA cadre also dug a pit in front of Sabir Ahmad in order to bury him after killing. However, he was released after frantic and intense communication with Muslim leaders and SPs of the two neighbouring districts of Churachandpur and Bishenpur (Bishnupur).
Now Sabir is undergoing treatment in a hospital at Imphal.
