Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) today started five-day long celebrations to pay tribute to prominent freedom fighter and first education Minister of Independent India, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

A colourful inaugural ceremony was held at its Model School in Falaknuma in the old city of Hyderabad.

Prof. Ainul Hasan, in his presidential address, advised students not to drop their studies in the middle. He announced that the BA Evening College, which was started last year in the School, will now be reserved only for students of MANUU Model School. The Vice-Chancellor also assured teachers and students that their genuine demands will be accepted.

Basha Mohiudin advised parents to focus on the good upbringing of the children and spend time with them, saying only then they will be able to become good citizens.

Amjad Khan Pathan of Bosch Company said that today if we are saying that India is on the map of global development, the credit goes to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad because he was the person who started modern-day education and now we all are beneficiaries. Maulana Azad believed that for nation-building everyone deserves education. MANUU Model School is a testament for this, he added.

Earlier, the students presented a splendid cultural programme blended with social messages showcasing their talents through a diverse range of activities including speeches, songs, dance performances, acts, Nazm and Qawwali.

Prizes and mementoes were also distributed to students in recognition of their performance in academics and extra-curricular activities.
