Hyderabad: Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) celebrated National Education Day with a lecture on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning by Padma Shri awardee Prof. Syed E. Hasnain, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad and recipient of Germany’s Order of Merit. The session was presided over by MANUU Vice Chancellor Prof. Syed Ainul Hasan.
Prof. Hasnain discussed the rapid rise of AI and its growing influence on daily life. He explained how innovations such as self-driving cars, digital platforms, and 3D printing are transforming industries. Drawing from his research in DNA sequencing, he spoke on the role of genome studies in advancing medical science and disease prevention.
He emphasised the need to balance technology with ethics and human emotion. “Computers will do more things more intelligently than us, but they cannot replace human warmth,” he said. He urged students to develop compassion, honesty, teamwork, and humility along with technical skills. Prof. Hasnain also recalled Maulana Abul Kalam Azad’s advocacy for women’s education, describing it as visionary and still relevant.
In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof. Hasan announced MANUU’s inclusion in the QS World University Rankings for the first time. He said the university’s progress reflects its successful implementation of the National Education Policy and dedication to multidisciplinary research. Prof. Ishtiaque Ahmed, Registrar, announced the inauguration of a Digital Multimedia Center to support distance learning.
The celebration also featured the announcement of an upcoming international conference on Indo-Persian linguistic commonalities, marking a milestone in MANUU’s academic calendar.
