– Mohammed Atherulla Shariff

Bengaluru, April 29: A progressive movement is taking shape in the Quraish brotherhood (mutton merchants) in the country. At the culmination of South India conference, addressing the media persons, the national vice president of the Quraish Conference Saleem Ahmed Quraishi, said, “Vision 2035 programme was launched which comprises development of the community on 16 fronts.”

Carrying out a literacy drive, employment generation, education and empowerment of women, providing legal guidance and a drive to ease the Nikah are some of the highlights of the vision document, he said. Separate legal cell and health section are to be set up. Health camps would be conducted now and then, said Ahmed.

Elaborating on the plan, Saleem Quraishi said a separate social service wing will be established to promote the service culture in the community. The drive would be a pan-India movement and separate committees to implement the vision document will be established at district level.

Another vice president of the Quraish Conference BM Yusuf Quraishi explained that a survey would be conducted to analyse the economic condition of the Quraish community. Their mutton business would be modernized and people will be educated about various schemes of the government relevant to them.

The south India convenor of the Conference Sadatulla Khan said political awareness is also a part of the vision programme. Representation of the community in various political forums is also in due consideration.

Advocate Tabassum Mehtab, chief of women’s wing, emphasized the role of women in community development. Even Purdah-observing women can contribute to the well-being of the society, she said.
